Answer: Qualification for Medicaid cannot be neatly summarized. The rules are different depending upon whether you are married or single. Connecticut enacted new laws in 2001, 2003 and 2005 and there are now two separate sets of rules that vary based on the married couple’s financial situation and other matters. In addition, the Federal government passed new rules effective in 2006 and the State of Connecticut issued interpretive regulations in 2007 that have greatly and adversely changed the landscape.
