What to Expect

ExpectationChances are that you haven't met with an attorney. And it would be no surprise that you're not quite sure what to expect. So here are some things you may find helpful:

Your initial consultation

At our first meeting, we will get to know each other and will extensively review your personal circumstances. (Prior to our first meeting, you will be asked to complete our client questionnaire in preparation for your initial consultation.) You share what you hope to achieve, and we'll offer suggestions that we feel would best address your needs. Before you walk out the door, you will have a recommended plan of action and the information you'll need to evaluate your options. We will also give you an estimate of our fees to do your legal work.

Get your questions answered

If during the meeting you don't understand something - ask us...and ask again if you need to!  It is very important that you understand everything we discuss in our meeting with you. We get that much of the information you'll hear is new to you, and that you may feel overwhelmed. So ask away - we don't want you to leave without a full understanding of what's been discussed.  Remember, we are working for you and you have every right to fully understand what is discussed and recommended.

Flexible fee arrangements

Most of the work we perform is done for a fixed fee that is discussed with you at the initial consultation and mutually agreed to. In some instances we charge by the hour with hourly rates being different for work performed by attorneys, paralegals and secretaries. Your arrangement will be discussed at the initial consultation.

Are there additional costs?

If there are any out-of-pocket expenses, they will be charged to you. These expenses can include town clerk recording and filing fees, title search fees, court hearing fees, and the like. Unlike many law firms, we won't "nickel and dime" you and we won't charge for routine copying or postage or for long distance phone calls and other such costs.

“All dealings have been excellent. Very professional organization. Great explanations of our options related to preparing a will. Clear, concise, great guidance and not trying to "sell us" on something we do not need. Administrative folks were super. All of our related paperwork was clearly tagged with what we needed to provide/sign/read /etc. Made things easy. Nice work.” L.G., Berlin, CT

“We loved working with your firm and really trust the advice. You have a well-deserved reputation and it was nice to check off a number of things that had been on our To-Do list. Although it's hard to make the time to take care of some of these matters, it is a great relief when you do so. I would definitely recommend your firm to anyone in need of the services that you provide.” L.M., Simsbury, CT

The attorney who served us was kind, thorough, and very responsive. He pointed out some issues in my mother's documents that could have been problematic down the road. After my mother passed, everything was as seamless as possible - a true gift at a time when life and death decisions were being made and emotions were overwhelming. J.B., Cromwell, CT
